Character Information
General
Canon Source: Supernatural
Canon Format: TV Series
Character's Name: Ben Braeden
Character's Age: 8 (Just had his birthday!)
Conditional: If your character is 13 years of age or under, please clarify how they will be played.
Ben’s a semi-normal boy with a bad ass attitude. He has castmates that are willing to take him in, and if those drop I’m sure he can charm his way into someone's heart. I tend to play him as a kid in a horror game, so it works. He’s pretty tough and tries to appear strong for others (or for himself as he doesn’t want to look like a scared lil punk). I’ve played him in a horror game before and found he’s pretty resourceful. Finding a place for him should be easy.

What form will your character's NV take?
A nondescript black (Nintendo DS Lite) portable flip top game station. Much like the one he has back home. It can do all the standard things like video, text, voice and holo. So on. It can also play games, so if he doesn’t have some on it already someone better load him down with some...

The odds are high that he will LOVE the holo part of this device...

Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities:
Ben has no abilities in canon at all. He’s a normal lil’ boy with no superpowers at all. He’s smart and charming and a bit ‘grown up’ in some manners and actions, but otherwise there’s nothing too special about him. He has a great eye for cars, old rock music, the ability to appreciate the babes, coloring and a love for peanut butter sandwiches. Really, how much more normal can he be?

He’s active, sporty, a good runner with general childlike stamina, though he can’t go on forever, he does seem a bit like the energizer bunny. It takes a bit to wear him out. He’s smart on his feet, thinks on the fly and is good at getting through small spaces without putting too much thought into it.

Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them?
Underwater Breathing. - Yep. Random. Off the wall. Might not really come into effect too often. No reason for it at all other them it’s pretty cool and he’d be way excited about it, but come on, how cool is that? Apparently he has a love of water to back this up, yeah? Okay, that might be personal preference really, but no one said powers had to make sense. I think discovering this power will be a lot of fun however.

It’s as simple as what it sounds; He can breath under water. This comes with some restrictions of course, the first being that he can ONLY breath under WATER like substances and not other things. If the liquid holds some form of ‘air’ in it, he can process it, though some substances might be harder then others. But the bath tub? The lake? He’ll be able to stay underwater for a limitless amount of time if he wanted.

This doesn’t remove the wrinkled hands and skin however. If he’s under water for too long he will water log, at least for now. As he grows older and the power gets better and stronger, his skin will be able to handle being under water longer. Perhaps when he hits puberty he’ll grow webbing between his feet and fingers; something that can retract and look relatively normal outside of water. But again, that’s not for some time from now. A very long time infact.

Relevant to the game is simply laying underwater and breathing it in. No gills or anything, just simple and strange ability to take in water and produce air. The water doesn’t filter into his lungs or anything like that. It goes in far enough to filter out the air and expel on its own. The air is moved around his system and let out again while taking another breath.

At this young age it will be harder for him to stay under for long periods of time. A feeling of a lack of oxygen might bother him, as well as feeling light headed. He can pass out under water from not getting enough air or if someone covers or restricts his mouth and nose he will suffocate. He will not drown but suffocate.

Other current draw backs would be headaches, bloody nose or other problems due to underwater pressure. Not to mention he has to know how to swim and right now isn’t the best swimmer. He’s working on that though.

Weapons:
None at all! He has no weapons on him at all from where he is being pulled.

Character History:

In short there isn’t too much to Ben, but he is, from the point I am taking him from, eight years old. He’s a good kid for the most part, raised well by his mother in a single parent home. He’s good with the chicks and well liked by others (especially considering how many people were at his 8th birthday party!). His mother's home looks like it’s a nice one so he’s been raised in a good environment at least. Though his mother (Lisa) admits to having a wild streak in her life, she’s taken good care of her son.

Ben and his mother live in a small suburb of Cicero in Indiana in a nice house where I can only assume he attends a fairly nice elementary school as well. He’s in about 3rd grade and no doubt doing pretty good with his classes. There isn’t much history to give for his past.

On his 8th birthday he had a rather large party with lots of friends from school as well as their parents. There was even an ‘Epic” Moon bounce set up (A major chick magnet you know) in their backyard. This was the first time he met Dean Winchester, though he didn’t know who this man was, other then some guy at his party.

Shortly after the party he was out at the park, a little down looking. Dean happened to see him and came over to see what the problem was. He was too embarrassed and stubborn to tell a stranger what was bothering him, but Dean being so good at reading people figured it out. Answering questions is easier then ratting out someone anyhow. A large boy, a bit of a bully, had taken his DS portable game and was playing it with three of his friends, leaving Ben to sit alone and wait. You don’t send an adult in to get these things back. That would be a bitch move, and Ben is clearly not like that. Dean offered him some advice on how to stand up and take it back.

Ben did just that. He went up to the boy, asked for it back, and when the boy refused, Ben made like he was going to leave... then hit him. With a few good swift kicks to the nads the large boy went down and none of his friends stepped in to help. Returning to the bench where Dean waited, Ben cheered, excited that it worked! He got his game back and stood up to someone who had picked on him. Not only that but Dean was proud of him! At this point it seems that Ben has found a male role-model to follow. However his mother happened to see as well and was really upset! She dragged Ben away from Dean, but clearly Dean hadn’t been thanked yet. Yanking from his mothers hold he turned to run, returning to Dean and hugging him tightly around the middle saying ‘Thank you.’

There was a Changeling going around and exchanging children in the neighborhood and Ben happened to be caught as well. Sitting in a cage with other children in cages, Ben stayed calm and waited. When Dean and Sam came to find the children, Dean rescued Ben first, then helped break the locks for the other children. Staying calm, collected and level headed, Ben helped escort the other children together while Dean got them out of cages. When Dean broke the window to try and get the kids out, Ben was the first to smartly offer his jacket as a cover for the sharp edges of the glass, to help protect those climbing out.

Dean called for Ben to come first, but Ben, being a brave and strong willed young boy, reached out and pulled another child first, leading him up to Dean to get him out first. He then helped to lead each of the others to the window first, trying to get everyone out before him. In the end Sam and Dean had to fight off the creature that was attacking them leaving Ben and two kids behind and waiting.

While fighting, Dean gave an order for Ben to get the rest of them out. The young boy moved swiftly, grabbing a tar bucket and hauling it up, making a platform for the other kids to climb on, helping the girls out the window with a small push. He started to follow, turning back to watch Dean and the other guy fighting the woman. Instead of staying behind though he started through the window, hands pulling himself out and--this is where he ends up falling, tumbling down into a baseball field, crashing into the ground and flopping out into Siren’s Port.

Point in Canon:
Season 3, Episode 2 - “The Kids Are Alright.” - First appearance episode, near the end but not quite. I’m pulling him from the moment that he’s helping the other children out the window. Dean just yelled “Ben, get ‘em outta here!” and Ben moves the bucket, helping the last girl out the broken window. He looks back to see Dean kicking ass and then starts out the window himself, only to stumble out the window and fall into the baseball diamond.

Note: Ben does have several more episodes coming up in his canon, but I’m taking him from an earlier point than that. The next time we see him he will be 11 years old and a lot more connected to Dean then he is now. I feel that from this canon point he’ll have a better chance in port to integrate with others outside of his cast. I’ve taken some of his character traits from how he acts in all the episodes however, to keep him a well rounded character.

There is a possibility that I will canon update Ben after a good long time in game. I intend to play him at this age for a while before I consider this however.

Character Personality - Revised:
Ben is something of an average eight year old boy with no superpowers of any kind. He was born and raised by only his mother (Lisa) in a nice suburban town where very little abnormal things happened to him, meaning his life has been pretty sweet so far, which reflects in his personality. Though because his mother is his leading influence on everything her own interesting personality is reflected in the boy.

He has a love for cars, AC/DC, and a good eye for chicks. He curses (“Only bitches send an adult in. I’m not a bitch.”) though perhaps not in front of his mom so much. He does video games, colors, and plays with toy cars. He uses the terms ‘Awesome’, ‘Dude’, ‘Sup’, ‘Sweet’, ‘Chicks’ and other general older era words that he no doubt picked up from his mother, aunt and her friends. He also reads and appears to be pretty smart. Clearly his mothers influences have colored his likes, dislikes and colorful personality.

At this age, Ben is seen being a real charmer, which might also reflect a lot of his upbringing with Lisa, but also used to drop hints to his possible relation to Dean Winchester. There are a few moments in the series where he is seen following a mother and daughter with his eyes, though you have to admit it’s hard to tell if he’s looking at the mother or the girl. He’s also seen running up to the moon-bounce with a grin and calling out “Hello ladies, here comes trouble!”

As I said, the heavy handed hint in that episode was that Ben “could” be Dean’s son, but Lisa keeps telling him awkwardly that he’s not. Later in the seasons a demon taunts Dean with the same thing, that Ben is his son, but after a ‘you don’t know, do you?’ moment the demon laughs and says she’s just kidding. At the moment the information on Ben being Dean’s son or not is not known for fact but the boy acts a lot like the man. If you think about it however, he acts a lot like his mother in the fact that she tends to have the same wild interests.

While Ben may or may not be Dean’s son, it’s very clear though all of Ben’s appearances that he would LOVE to BE Dean’s son, or at least have Dean around as a father figure. The boy is sorely in need of a male role model. Dean is perfect in his eyes! the man loves his mother (which is one of the most important parts) and treats her right. He’s smart and cool looking and has a cool car, and loves cars and good music. Even if Dean wasn’t so damn cool, Ben might hero worship him simply because he pays attention to him.

This isn’t to say that he’s neglected or not adored. His mother loves him dearly, and though she is strict she spoils him (see his birthday party, where he had a very large festive party with a huge moon-bounce). It’s just to say that he strives for attention from the male gender that he is easy to impress.

Though it is almost like he’s imprinted on Dean in the fact that no other guy will do, at all, for his mother or him. When he’s older he actually calls up Dean and tells him that ‘something is wrong’ with Lisa, explaining that she hasn’t come out of her room and he’s really worried. He convinces Dean to drop a case and come out ASAP to the house. When Dean gets there he finds out that Lisa wasn’t in trouble at all... she’s just getting ready for a date. Ben tried so hard to get Dean to come back that he actually lied to the man on the phone in desperation.

This incident left both Lisa and Dean annoyed with the boy, but neither took it out on him, as they understood why he did it. When Dean came to talk to him about it, Ben actually snapped at the man, pretending to be indifferent at first, but then accusing Dean of walking out on his family’, which for Ben seems to be very important to him. Family is the most important thing to him, and Dean, Ben feels, isn’t interested in them anymore. It upsets Ben. Not only is family important but this incident proves that Ben can lie pretty well and convincingly if he needs to, as well as get temperamental with people he does love when he feels slighted by them.

It should be noted that in later episodes, when Ben is 11 and 12 years old he seems to have mellowed out in the flirty, wild and playful departments. He’s still a sweet kid who makes friends easily and has an eye for the girls, but he makes less comments about ‘chicks’ and seemed more matured or mellow. There really isn’t a lot of moments in later episodes to display this aspect of him anymore, but the way he acts he seems more grown up. the hero worship however seems to grow steady but stable, as Dean, for a while, is actually around to teach him things like working on cars and other manly things.

There is a bit of a personality change when he becomes older. It’s not too much but it’s definitely a bit different then his eight year old self. Between the kidnapping when he was eight and Dean showing up at their front door years later, Ben seemed to have mellowed out, grown up and matured a bit more. He also seems a bit softer then the stronger edged boy of eight years old who is confident, proud and flirty. I like to think that the events of that night with the Changelings and the kidnapping might have startled him into growing up a little faster then he should have. He seems a bit more careful and less carefree at this older age.

With that said it’s good to point out that Ben, from where I am pulling him at the moment will be dealing with the trauma of having been kidnapped by changelings and held in a cage for some time. As I said before, I think this incident is partly the cause of his mellowing out as he ages. From what is seen of the boy in the future and the boy I am intending to bring into the game, he’s ‘softer’ and a bit more quiet.

Ben comes off as curious and adventurous. He appears to be rather curious about the things that Dean used to do when Dean is there in their lives when the boy is older. The supernatural things as well as the weapons, cars, history, stories and things that go bump in the night. When he’s older he understands that there are things out there that are not good and that people need to deal with. People like Dean. Though the older man doesn’t want Ben to have to learn any of that and is trying to protect him, it’s clear that ben has a big interest in it all. It seems to disappoint Ben when he’s told not to think about those kind of things.

When he’s older and they move homes (Because Dean is worried that something is coming after them) all Ben wants to do is go out and explore the new block, their new neighborhood. He wants to take his bike out to ride around and look into things. Dean does NOT think that this is a good idea and forces him to stay inside to help his mother which makes Ben a bit grumpy, but as always he does as he’s told. The way this is displayed as well as eight year old Ben’s actions at his party I’m pretty sure he’s just generally a curious little fellow. His mind wanders and he needs to investigate things that catch his interest.

This also leads me to state that he is excellent at following orders, though as any young child might do, he can stray from those orders if he doesn’t like them and no one is watching. Still, he’s good at taking orders, especially in tough situations. When he’s older the group of them have to try and save his wounded and bleeding mother. Ben is so unused to these horrible issues (like death, blood, demons...) that he’s in shock, panicking over his mother. Dean actually has to slap him out of it, get his attention and make Ben get himself together. Dean picks up Lisa and tells Ben to take a shot gun, explains how to use it, and tells him to fire on anything that comes towards them. While leaving, it takes him a moment but he does shoot a demon, which shocks him again, but Dean is able to give him more orders and the boy recovered and followed.

This is a really good example of where the older and younger Ben are much the same. When the changeling incident happened Ben was less in shock then he is when he’s older, but took orders instantly and with ease. The changeling incident was less traumatizing than the later because no one was really hurt, only caged. Ben displayed high levels of calm intelligence at every turn of the series. Even when in shock he’s calm and quiet and not crying and shaking.

He is a calm boy, but this isn’t to say he can’t get excitable over the small things. For his birthday he got a CD and promptly yelled “Awesome! ACDC Rules!” while cheering about his new gifts. He’s 8 years old after all, and a bit of a mini rebel. He gets happy of hyper like any little kid can. When he’s trying to calm down and be serious though he shoves his hands into his pockets in order to control himself. When a mood is serious he doesn’t crack jokes or make light; he instead stays out of the way but steps up to do what he can to assist. He’s also really smart about things, thinking on his feet and staying collected. So yes, he can be a bit of a hyper bouncy boy when he’s happy, but he seems to know when to pull that in.

He’s not a fighter in the fact that he goes around picking fights and bullying, but he does have a fighting spirit. Before he had met Dean he had never actually considered hitting someone in order to stand up for himself. That just wasn’t how his mother raised him. In stead, when a bully takes his game he sits back, pouting and fidgeting in annoyance to the fact that some bully has his game and he just has to sit back and watch. Dean however tells him to stand up for himself... and he does.

Walking up to the bully he tapped the boy on the shoulder, still being somewhat polite to the older larger boy in giving him a chance to give it back. When the bully laughed and said no, Ben turned around as if to leave then came back and kicked the bigger boy in the balls. Dropping the large boy he took his game back with no words, not gloating, laughing or rubbing it in. No taunting words or sarcastic remarks. He just took it back and walked off, running up to Dean with an excited and proud smile! He had never stood up for himself like that before and you could see the pride blossom across his face for it. Clearly it felt good. Even as his mother caught him and yelled at him, he was still grateful, returning to Dean to give him a tight hug and a thank you.

As I said, he doesn’t think to throw fists first, but instead talk things out if he can. Thus he’s not much of a fighter, but he will fight for what he needs to, if he needs to. That’s because he displays a bit of a protective streak. He’s willing to do what needs to be done in order to keep people safe. This was displayed in his first episode where, when told to come first to escape, he said “No, him first.” and started to guide and help the other children out before him. Offering his jacket up to help cover the broken glass in the basement window also proved that he is not only smart but caring and considerate of others, trying to protect and help keep them from harm.

This was also displayed later in the series when older Ben becomes very protective of his mother, to the point that when told to take up a shot gun and shoot anyone coming to stop him, he managed to do just that. When they were in the hospital later he was very angry at Dean for getting his mother hurt. He stayed by her side for as long as allowed displaying not only his loyalty to his mother but his protectiveness. He comes across as the type of child that once he has a person or reason to be protective he will try his best to keep that person safe and happy, even if he is still young.

To summarize, Ben is somewhat an average young boy who loves his mother, desperately wants a male role model/father figure in his life, is playful, loyal, determined, eager to learn, happy and childlike but with the smarts to him to be calm, collected and think fast in a tough situation. He was raised a well mannered young man, even if he does look like a bit of a rebel from time to time. He is caring, charming, friendly and fun loving, though he has the attitude that comes across as a child that might accidentally find himself in some weird problems and trouble from time to time. Even if he does though, he’s got the luck running through his genes and attitude to get him out of those kind of situations.

Character Personality (Original):
Ben is your average 8 year old! Well, almost average. He has a love for cars, ACDC, and a good eye for chicks. He curses (“Only bitches send an adult in. I’m not a bitch.”) though perhaps not in front of his mom so much. He plays video games, colors, and plays with toy cars. He uses the terms ‘Awesome’, ‘Dude’, ‘Sup’, ‘Chicks’ and other general older era words that he no doubt picked up from his mother, aunt and her friends. He also reads and appears to be pretty smart.

Ben seems to be a charmer. A real ladies man, even at such a young age. There are a few moments in the series where he is seen following a mother and her daughter with his eyes, though you have to admit it’s hard to tell if he’s looking at the mother or the girl. He’s also seen running up to the moon bounce with a grin and calling out “Hello ladies, here comes trouble!” Which pretty much startles Dean. The heavy handed hint in that episode was that Ben “could” be Dean’s son, but Lisa keeps telling him awkwardly that he’s not. Later in the seasons a demon does the same thing but then takes it back. Weather Ben is or isn’t his son we don’t know for a fact but the boy acts a lot like the man.

He had never really fought with anyone before meeting Dean, being a good mannered young man for the most part. When bullies poked and picked on him he let them, choosing to sit back and just wait for whenever he might have a chance to get his things back or not. He wouldn’t go to his mother about these matters, as that really wasn’t right. He didn’t punk out like that. If he lost his things then so be it. Dean however taught him how to get them back, teaching him to step up and stand for himself. The first time he did it felt good and made him happy. It’s one of those things that you suddenly realize that you can deal with tough situations on your own.

He’s a calm kid. While trapped in a cage by the Changeling he didn’t seem to lose his head. He appeared scared, like anyone would be, but still calm and level headed. Instead, when freed he did what he could to help. He smartly guided the other kids to the side while Dean set them free. He then showed how smart he was by offering his jacket to protect the others from the broken glass of the window. On top of all that when taking the order to get the others out he brought a tar bucket over to help make a platform to get the other kids out, not attempting to push them out the window like Dean had, but being smart and giving them all another lift to let them out with.

While he is a calm boy, this isn’t to say he can’t get excitable over the small things.

Ben is caring, charming, intelligent, calm but fun loving. He reacts and acts a lot like a young Dean but might seem a bit (to Dean) like a young Sam. There are so many similarities between Ben and the Winchesters that it’s hard to believe he’s not related to them. In tough situations he is calm and collected, smart and ready to do as told. He follows orders well but has a fun side to him that will get him into trouble once in awhile. It’s just in his genes, the odd luck he displays. You could say trouble is his middle name. He’s a curious sort that wants to look into all sorts of things, even if he’s told he can’t.

Character Plans:
Not going to lie, I know this app seems really Dean-centric but that’s because he’s one of the only people Ben has been displayed within the series and helps show off a lot of his character. I really would like to see what happens with his cast mates. Dean especially, so yes, he will have a lot of small cast interactions. He won't know anyone other then Dean IN the cast, but he will be of mild interest to some of them, so that can’t be helped.

With that said, I want him to also try to interact with some of the younger characters in the game! I also intend to have someone put him into school at some point, so I can have him deal with M.A.N. problems! He’s a pretty friendly kid and would be interested in talking to others, going out on his own (oops) or just causing small trouble for adults in general. If others are willing to embrace him, I am willing to get him out there.

I would love it if SERO took interest in the child, as they used to take interest in young kids with fast growing abilities. Easier to brainwash and train after all. If he can breath under water then he could be of use to them for odd things. I’ll be kind, I think, and keep him out of the darker side of AGI things.

My desire for him is that I want something new. My other characters have been in port so long that they are complacent and settled in. I need to spice up my RP life with something different then what I have. Ben would be different on so many levels that I find it interesting.

Appearance/PB:
An 8 year old Mini Dean Winchester, or just about. Brown hair, brown eyes, rounded face and adorable smile. He looks like a general, normal young man. He’ll be dressed in a black shirt, jeans and black boots, with his green jacket in hand when he crashes to the island.

[The video starts with an image of a boy, sitting behind the Greeter desk at the front lobby. He’s on the floor, leaning on the back side of the shelves. It was odd, going from a basement window to suddenly falling through the sky. Weirder still that he didn't break every bone in his body as he landed in a strange baseball field in the middle of nowhere. He gasped as the breath was knocked out of him for a moment, rattling his already tired brain while he flopped out onto his back.

“Ow...” he groaned to himself, sitting up. He looked confused but alright for now, black shirt dusty, jeans dirty and jacket in hand. He shifted to his knees, standing, suddenly feeling really sick to his belly. His hand wrapped around it as his head swam.

“Dean?” He asked, turning around to find no basement window there. He saw nothing he recognized actually! A little bit of panic started to fill him along with the sick feeling, but he held it all down, clenching his jacket in his hand as he searched around for where everyone went.

The other kids should be out here. The ones he helped get out. The basement to that house, the HOUSE even. Where did it all go. “I must be dreaming...” He told himself, disbelieving in what the hell was going on. Seriously, dude, this was not cool. The day had been so very strange anyhow, and finding himself in a cage was bull.

His mother was going to be SO upset!

Spinning his coat around onto his shoulders, a portable game box fell out, scattering to the ground. His DS? Interesting... he didn't think he had that with him before. Reaching down he scooped it up, shoving it into his pocket... only to pause as he heard the growling.

It had been dark where he came from as well, but it felt darker now than normal. Actually the world didn't seem right anyhow. The sky too red, the ground to slick and gross. The dog chewing on a mouth full of ropes was too bloody and--

Wait. That dog didn't look right. And it was growling. “Nice doggy...” Ben said in a small voice, a hand up as if to ward it off. He started to step backwards though, carefully watching it. Was that dog bleeding? Why were the ropes wiggling around like that? When a rope reached out for him he yelled, turning to take off running for the dugout, because that seemed somewhat safe.

Which was a good idea because the moment he reached the door and flung himself in the dog assisted in slamming the door shut as it ran face first into it. A rope tugging around the corner of the door, not fully shut yet he yelled again, no where near level headed in his current stage of panic. “Bad dog! Bad!” Before he was able to stomp on the rope, close the door and lock himself in.

In the dark.

Alone.

Ben moved to the other side of the protected dugout, sitting in the corner and wrapping his arms around his belly again. Holy cow... what to do now?! He took in deep breaths, calming himself down, eyes wide in the dark. So very dark. He wanted to barf and wanted to make the room stop spinning all at once. That fall was not a nice one. ‘I’m dreaming, I’m dreaming, i’m dreaming...”

Pulling his DS out he opened it, not messing with it but opened it so the light came on. He sat the game down beside him, going silent as he heard the creature outside, pacing, growling.

I’m dreaming. I’m dreaming. I’m dreaming. he thought to himself this time, staying seated and waiting. He didn't know when he fell asleep, but by time morning came he was plum tuckered out and just as confused as he was that night.
